“Don’t You Recognize Me?” A Daily Post Inspired Story

All Molly wanted to do, when she got home after grueling day at work, was soak in a bubble bath with a glass of wine and a good romance book.  Maybe even a couple of the scented candles, she had recently bought to help her relax.   She had barely gotten a few feet from her front door when the humungous bouquet of flowers came into view.  It was a wonder she hadn’t seen it from the street as big as it was…  And with bright colorful flowers.

There didn’t appear to be any cards attached to give Molly a clue as to who the flowers might have come from.  A moment later, her cell phone began to jangle from within her purse.

“Hello” she answered after retrieving her phone.

“Hi”  came the voice on the other end of the line,  “Did you like the flowers I sent you?”

“Who is this?” Molly wanted to know.  “And how did you get my number?”

“From your friend, Kristin…  Arling.”  Was the reply to her second question.

Who ever it was knew that Kristin was her friend, but it still didn’t answer Molly’s question as to who this guy was, or why he had sent her the huge bouquet of flowers.

“Don’t you recognize who this is?”  Came the voice over the phone line,  reminding Molly that there was still someone there.

“Should I?”  Molly asked.

“We were in the same Biology class in High School and we went to college together…  Robert.”  He supplied when she didn’t say anything, “Robert Grills.”

Molly nearly dropped the phone where she stood.  Robert Grills had sent her the bouquet.  The boy she had had a crush on since the first moment she had seen him in High School…  Obviously not a boy any longer, she reminded herself.  After nearly 10 years, she wondered what he might look like.  Did he look the same?  Had the years been nice to him?

“I was wondering if I could take you out to dinner tonight.”  Robert was asking.

“Sure”  Molly agreed, giving him her address

Later that evening  Molly, dressed in a summery blouse and simple skirt, answered the door to find Robert standing there with yet more flowers in his hands, this time a simple small bouquet of pink flowers.  He had aged a little and had put on a few extra pounds over the years, but he still seemed as fit as he had back in his high school college days.  Robert extended the flowers to Molly with a chaste peck on the cheek.
