Good day, friends! Debb here to bring you a new round of prompts for our weekly blog hop. I am filling in for Leanne who is currently on a sabbatical for health concerns. Please keep our dear one in your prayers as she is healing. Thanks!
“The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
of the big lake they call “Gitche Gumee.”
“Superior,” they said, “never gives up her dead
when the gales of November come early!”
–Gordon Lightfoot, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (1975)
November in the Midwest. Cold. Really cold, especially on the Great Lakes — Lake Superior being the coldest of them all. On the 10th of this month is the anniversary of The Edmund Fitzgerald’s sinking.
I have always loved this song, even though it’s depressing, because it tells a story. Isn’t that what writing is all about, after all? Story telling, be it through a song, written story, play…We here at the Writer Wednesday Blog Hop like to encourage the art of story telling and hope you’ll participate if you haven’t already. The rules for the Writer Wednesday Blog Hop are below.
With a new month comes a new winner… and I have to shriek, joyfully, that the name that Leanne picked out of her hat is: Debb Stanton! Here is her button you can post on your blog if you choose:

Here are the stories turned in from last week’s prompt:
Billy and the Train by Scott Taylor

New Versus Old by Debb Stanton
RULES FOR THE HOP:
•Use the photo(s) and prompt provided to write a 500-word story; all elements of the prompt must be a feature in the brief story you create. We aren’t counting, but for the fairness of the readers please, no 1000+ word entries.
•If it is a two-photo prompt, the two photos must be visible in your story. If it’s the 1 photo/5 words prompt, the photo and 5 words MUST be clearly referenced in your story. Variations on a word are allowed within reason (for example: adding s, ed, ing to the word to be grammatically correct); but creating a new, unrelated, word is not. (To see an example of a “1 photo/5 word” story see Faith, Hope, Love, and Pink by one of our hostesses, Debb Stanton.)
•Photos are the property of the hostess for the week, unless otherwise mentioned. Please Do Not share photos and/or prompt words as your own.
•In order to honor the community-purpose of the blog hop, we ask that you please reference the blog hop (not one of the hostesses) in your post so your blog audience and the blog hop community may all be connected.
•Link your story through the blue froggy at the bottom by the following Tuesday (direct link to story, not your whole blog, please).
Without further delay, here are the new prompts:
