#AtoZChallenge: #ShortStory – Letter L

Catching up on my stories

Words for the AtoZ Challenge are randomly chosen using Random.Org.  Words used for letter L are:

  • LLeap Year – Every 4th year is a Leap Year there will be 29 days in Feb
  • Loathe – To abhor.  An intense dislike
  • Luau- Hawaiian Feast
  • Lymph- clear yellowish body fluid
  • Lead – A heavy, soft metal; Graphite in pencil; To direct or guide

“Damn,” Lisa exclaimed as the lead broke on her pencil.  She had been taking notes from her Biology book.  She had a test coming up in her Biology class on Leap Years Day  and the section on Lymph was especially giving her trouble.  In fact, she loathed the thought of taking the test. Lisa worried about how she was going to do on the upcoming test.

Looking in her book bag, Lisa hoped to find another pencil but she came up short.

“Damn,” she exclaimed again.  This just wasn’t her day.

Out of the corner of her eye Lisa saw a pencil appear, seemingly out of nowhere.  Glancing up she saw the young security guard who had just  started a few months earlier.  Smiling her thanks, Lisa tentatively reached out for the pencil.

“Thank You”  she said taking the pencil.  She started to go back to her studying when she realized Luke (the name on his name tag) was still standing there.  She looked back up questioningly.

“I was wondering,”  Luke asked a bit nervously, “Were you planning on going to the Luau next month?”

“Ummm… Maybe…  Why?”  Lisa replied

“No reason,  I just thought, perhaps, that if you were going to be going maybe we could meet up there.”

Join Me in the month of April as I write “Alphabet stories” each day featuring a different letter from A to Z for the A to Z Challenge.
