Margaret pounded her fist against the steering wheel in frustration. Despite repeated attempts to free her car, it remained stubbornly stuck in the snow. Even the cheap pair of tire chains she carried in the car had not been of any help. If anything, it seemed as if her car was digging itself deeper and deeper. She pulled her phone from her purse only to find that the battery on it was dead, and the charger for it was sitting on her kitchen counter at home.
Walking back to the building she had exited from earlier, Margaret hoped to find someone inside that could help her but the place was deserted. Everyone had long since gone home for the day. Heading back to her car, she wondered what she was going to do next. All the businesses appeared closed and the streets empty. Only a couple cars remained but there was no sign of where the drivers might be.
Margaret was just about to start walking, to see if she could find some place of business that might still be open, when she noticed a police car round the corner and drive down the street. Waving frantically, Margaret tried to desperately to get his attention. Finally, the officer pulled to the side and stopped.
